Raymond van Barneveld rolled back the years to triumph at the Hungarian Darts Show, defeating Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen to scoop the title on Tuesday night.
The legendary trio were part of a star-studded exhibition line-up in Budapest, which also featured world No 2 Gerwyn Price, South African star Devon Petersen and ‘Queen of the Palace’ Fallon Sherrock.
Earlier in the evening, Van Barneveld prevailed in the pairs tournament – which saw the six darting stars partnered with a TV celebrity or personality – before he completed the double with a string of sublime performances.
The five-time world champion booked his place in Tuesday’s showpiece with successive 3-1 wins over Petersen and Taylor in Group A, averaging 109.33 to topple ‘The Power’.
This set up an all-Dutch showdown against Van Gerwen, who edged out Sherrock and Price in deciding legs, but ‘The Green Machine’ was blown away by his older compatriot, as Van Barneveld stormed to a stunning 5-0 victory to clinch glory.
